From the outset, the Anglican church in N. Argentina has worked closely with indigenous communities. We seek the well being of these marginalized people, whose cultural survival is now under threat. The diocese delegates this aspect of its holistic missions to ASocIANA (Acompanamiento Social de la Iglesia Anglicana del Norte Argentino). This department provides technical and legal support to indigenous organizations, as well as lobbying for basic human rights. ASocIANA is currently conducting work in the area of land rights, environmental protection, health, education and sustainable economic development. The cities, also, have their own particular problems. With a record number of jobless people and with the national economy in an unstable place, life is full of stresses and strains. Marriages are breaking down and problems of domestic violence, homelessness, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS have become more pronounced. Several city churches have taken initiative in social action projects, among them: feeding programs for street children, marriage support groups, health care, nurseries and inner healing ministries.
