Ours is a missionary history, beginning at the turn of the century with pioneer evangelism among tribal groups in the S. American Chaco region. In 1909 Barbrook Grubb began work and thirteen years later a group of indigenous Wichi were baptized in a settlement in the Northeast of the Argentine province of Salta. A sustained ministry with and by these peoples over the years has led to church growth, bible translation and rural development. Today, nearly 80% of our church members are from an indigenous background and one can find believers from the Wichi, Toba, Chorote and Chulupi tribes. In 1965 the first ordinations took place in Mision Chaquena and a decade later the first indigenous Anglican bishop in South America was consecrated in the diocese.
